Getting Rid of Stretch Marks: Possibility Or Wishful Thinking?
Stretch marks are embarrassing. They limit your clothing options, and make you cringe each time you’re out in swimwear. They make you insecure about your body, from arms to belly, from butt to thighs.
Even worse, there’s no magic formula to getting rid of stretch marks. I know because I have stretch marks, too, and while I know they’re not life-threatening, getting rid of stretch marks has become one of my priorities, a concern that’s almost as important as paying off the mortgage or achieving orgasm.
Stretch marks are the fine lines that appear on skin after it has been stretched past the point of elasticity. It may be caused by childbirth, sudden weight gain or weight loss, and a host of other factors, such as drastic build-up of muscles.
When skin is stretched, its normal collage production process is disrupted. Consequently, stretch marks appear and most frequently, they show up in the places where fat is stored – thighs and buttocks, the upper arms, breasts, and the abdomen.
Sadly, there is no permanent way to getting rid of stretch marks. In fact, getting rid of stretch marks is impossible, even with surgery. The most that women can hope for is to diminish their appearance or prevent stretch marks from appearing. Here’s how:
1. Eat foods that are rich in Vitamins A, C, and E. You may also take supplements that abound with these vitamins, and incorporate such into your regular diet.
2. Eat foods that are rich in silica and zinc. These two are good for the skin because they help form collagen, the skin’s supporting fibers.
3. Eat foods with the essential fatty acids, such as fish oils and vegetable oils. These help form cell walls.
4. Apply cocoa butter. You won’t be getting rid of stretch marks this way, but cocoa butter would help your stretch marks look faded.
5. After you shower, massage Vitamin E oil onto your stretch marks. Or, you may substitute Vitamin E with tretinoin cream. However, be sure to consult your doctor first because this cream is only available with a prescription.
Yes, stretch marks are ugly; and no, getting rid of stretch marks is no easy, laughing matter. With diligence, creams, and the proper diet, however, your stretch marks can turn from hideous to barely visible.
