Can You Shoo Stretch Marks Away?

Can stretch marks go away? You’ve lost count of the number of times you’ve asked your friends this question. The answers vary. Some say yes, swearing on their mother’s eyelashes that this product or that works. Others say no; it would be easier to get rid of wrinkles, flabs, or philandering husbands than stretch marks. So, which answer holds true? Can stretch marks go away? If yes, how?

The lower layer of your skin is made up of elastic supportive tissues that allow skin to stretch. When skin is stretched to its limit, however, it tears. This tearing in the lower layer of the skin is what you see on your skin’s surface as stretch marks. Stretch marks may start out as reddish brown, dark brown, or pink.

Over time, the color changes, turning into a glistening silvery hue. So, can stretch marks go away? No. Once torn, tissues do not mend themselves. There is no way stretch marks can be removed completely. If it’s any consolation, however, these marks share one trait with your exes: they look better with the passing of time.
